Life for Sale, One Shot at a Time

Stock imagery doesn’t inspire feelings of connectedness, nostalgia or frank regard for one’s own humanity. But when you think about it, those are the reasons why stock imagery thrives: its chattel are the universal pictures we have in our minds — a deal just-made, a first kiss, the lone internet-trawler in bed.

That’s why we’re so captivated by “From Love to Bingo” by Getty Images. It’s got nearly all the bits that matter to nearly all of us (some easter eggs, too. Watch for them!).

Charmed work by the consistently good AlmapBBDO, which may well rival W+K in consistently satisfying storytelling.

Life in stock photos. Awesome.

Love this short shot by Roman Polanski and featuring Ben Kingsley and Helena Bonham Carter. Presented by Prada, it premiered at Cannes this week and centers around a sartorially distracted therapist who tries on his (also distracted) patient’s fur coat. Find out more at Creativity Online.

VW makes simple awesome.

I’ve just spent 10 minutes playing with this. A very cool way to take a traditional flipbook concept and turn it on its head for social media engagement.

Who needs expensive video production and short films when you can wow your audience with a simple, animated short?

Sometimes the simplest technology can make a fun idea come to life. Thanks, Tom!

Virgin is taking its airline promotion to a whole new height (forgive the pun) with an in-flight short film that narrates the story of a man who falls in love with his seat buddy on a (Virgin) flight, and then travels the journey of his life (on Virgin airplanes) to find her. The film stars some international celebrities as well as regular passengers, as it was filmed on regularly scheduled flights using equipment that complied with FAA regulations, such as liquid limitations. Impressive, and telling for a company whose mission seems to be continually bucking conventions.
Check out this article for more information about the film.

From the people who brought you the G-male and his girlfriend Siri, comes the first ever Pinterest serial killer. Who knew re-pinning could be so dangerous (and CREEPY)?!

Pinterest Parody of the Day: Meet Petunia, the original Pinterest serial killer, from the folks who brought us the love story of G-Male and Siri.

Love to see agencies doing things for themselves rather than for clients, for a change. This is a great way to pay tributes to one of the world’s most loved literary icons.

Maurice Sendak died on Tuesday.

He left behind a world of wild things, little bears, goblins, and mysterious night kitchens

Yesterday, Riswold asked us to create a fitting send-off for Sendak.

We decided to go back to the world he created for us. We painted the walls, cut up everything we could get our hands on, and made a total mess of the 12 space (sorry, Jinnina).

Sixteen hours later, we’d recreated one of Sendak’s most iconic settings. And in the spirit of his work, we made it so everyone could be part of that world.

It’s a bittersweet goodbye, but it’s the least we could do for the man who inspired us to forever be wild things.

Work Out For Cash

Love this program as a great way to incentivize people to work out. GymPact makes a “pact” with their customers - go to the gym a certain number of times a week, and get cash for your effort. Miss a day, and pay a $5-$50 fine (you decide how much). What better way to get people to do stuff than by letting them make (or lose) money off of it?

That feeling you get when you get all dressed up to go out on a Friday night and everyone cancels and you end up watching Viva La Bam reruns all night.

Can’t deal with how awesome this is. What a cool way to integrate retail with pop culture.

fastcompany:

Ssense, a luxury retail company based out of Montreal, has recently introduced what they’re billing as the “world’s first interactive shoppable music video.” And yup, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like. I Think She Ready features Diplo, FKi, and Iggy Azalea all decked out and styled in brands and items carried by the site, while WireWax technology, which enables users to tag videos in essentially the same way they would a Facebook post, makes the “interactive shoppable” part possible.
